GROWN UP FLOWERS  is a multi-site installation by Playlab, Inc. launched this month   & hosted by the Avenues of the Americas Association.  It imagines flowers inflated many times their normal size,  giving visitors a new perspective on these iconic & playful representations of beauty.  Before it was “Manhattan,”  the island was covered with wild & beautiful flowers.  They’re still found in front of buildings,  but they’ve never been able to compete with the scale of their surroundings — until now. I saw them on May Day & honestly had no idea what they were but they look so much fun! Apparently, they were launched the following day, May 2nd. On opening day, volunteers gave out real Gerber Daisies, postcards & seed packets to passerbys to celebrate Grown Up Flowers & spring.
