#GrownUpFlowers

GROWN UP FLOWERS 
is a multi-site installation by Playlab, Inc.
launched this month  
& hosted by the Avenues of the Americas Association. 
It imagines flowers inflated many times their normal size, 
giving visitors a new perspective on these iconic & playful representations of beauty. 

Before it was “Manhattan,” 
the island was covered with wild & beautiful flowers. 
They’re still found in front of buildings, 
but they’ve never been able to compete with the scale of their surroundings — until now.

I saw them on May Day
& honestly had no idea what they were
but they look so much fun!

Apparently,
they were launched the following day,
May 2nd.

On opening day,
volunteers gave out real Gerber Daisies, postcards & seed packets
to passerbys to celebrate Grown Up Flowers & spring.




I also had the opportunity to meet the artists behind this amazing art installation,
Playlab, Inc.




Meet The Family

GROWN UP FLOWERS 
is a collection of the following 6 inflatable flower sculptures. 
Each has their own unique name, personality & expression. 
The inflatables were fabricated by Inflatable Images in Brunswick, Ohio
& rendered by Haik Avanian.

The flowers are secured in place with cables & lit from the inside for nighttime viewing.
They are so nice both day & night!

ROSE
Location: 1221 Sixth Ave.

Rose is the first flower I saw on May 1st.
She was located on the side of 48th St. between Ave. of the Americas & Broadway.

Today, May 11th,
Rose has moved to her real spot:
Ave. of the Americas between 48th & 49th St.

While constantly cloud gazing & thinking about one thing & one thing only:
her aspirations to be a pilot.

JACK 
Location: 1221 Sixth Ave.

 Jack loves to draw portraits.

Jack “courted” Rose for 10 days.


He spends his days in the plaza focused on his muse,
which happens to be Rose.


Finally Rose will never leave his sight!

WILSON 
Location: 1251 Sixth Ave


Wilson by day

 On most days,
Wilson would rather be swimming.

Wilson by night

On other days, he’s an amateur beekeeper.
Loves a piña colada & Tom Hanks.
Plays defender in beach volleyball.


TEDDY 
Location: 1221 Sixth Ave



Teddy loves the city,
but he’ll always be a country flower at heart.




Part time pie-maker, full time hug-giver.


WILT 
Location: 1120 Sixth Ave


Wilt loves all kinds of people &
can be a little bit of a talker.




He’s often been found challenging strangers to a one-on-one dunk contest.
He “always” wins.


If you are planning to see Wilt,
he will be back in 2 weeks!


KERRI 
Location: 125 W 55th Street


Kerri has an adventurous soul.


Her friends tell her she sometimes gets in over her head,
but she’s comfortable that way.



 From Wednesday, May 2, 2018 through July 2018, 
you can wander along Sixth Avenue to see the 6 different inflatable flowers 
sitting, lounging, floating, standing tall or even bending down to greet passerbys.

If you are in the NYC
or planning to visit,
make sure you don’t miss them!

It is fun to even hunt for all of them!
I live the Midtown but I had so much fun looking for all of them
& still continues to enjoy seeing them on a regular basis.

This jet lag is not fun and I'm in need of something to perk me up. To tire myself and hopefully go to bed earlier, we walked around the neighborhood. Britain in Bloom is the largest horticultural campaign in the United Kingdom. This year is its 50th Anniversary. The winners for the competition will be announced in September. While walking, I've noticed these blue round signs on some of the houses. Apparently, these are historical landmarks. Homemade Healthy Fudge

It's National Fudge Day! Fudge is a soft crumbly or chewy sweet made from sugar, butter, and milk or cream. I'm trying my best to stay away from refined sugar and dairy products so I decided to try to make a healthy fudge. This is refined sugar-free and dairy-free. ;) Ingredients: 1/2 cup almond butter (or nut butter of choice) 1 banana  1 tsp pure vanilla extract a sprinkle of salt 2 tbsp virgin coconut oil, melted  2 tbsp pure maple syrup (or sweetener of choice) Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a small blender until completely smooth. Or for some exercise (need to burn some calories before indulging in a fudge! lol),  mash the banana by hand and stir together ingredients by until smooth.  Scoop into container of choice. Thai Red CURRY

Since the Golden State Warriors won the NBA Finals, we can all celebrate by eating "Curry". I know it is cheesy! hahaha me & the Golden Gate Bridge in the Golden State, California But hey, today is Warriors Wednesday! Thai Red Curry Ingredients: for the sauce: 1 400 g coconut cream  2 tbsps red curry paste or green if you want (preferably organic/all-natural, why? click here ) 2 tbsps grated ginger  2 tbsps chopped cilantro  2 tbsps EVOO freshly ground black pepper salt to taste red bell pepper (or green), sliced *For non-vegetarians,  you can add a meat of your choice. Beef, chicken, salmon & shrimp are among the usual favorites. 1 package black bean spaghetti or brown rice (or rice of choice) Directions: Cook the spaghetti by boiling 8 cups of water with a table spoon of olive oil and a pinch of salt, add spaghetti to the boiling water then simmer gently for 6-8 minutes or until cooked through...
