Cherry Blossoms
Cherry Blossoms are the quintessential sign that spring has arrived.
Japanese Cherry Blossom trees,
also known as Sakura,
are among the most impressive & lovely of the cherry blossom tree family.
"You're only here for a short visit.
Don't hurry.
Don't worry.
And be sure to smell the flowers along the way."

I had the amazing opportunity to see the
Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s
Sakura Matsuri Festival 2018
I have been in NY for 11 years now.
Well, technically less than that since we lived in London for a few years.
But it is actually my first time to see the cherry blossoms in the BBG!
There are 26 of the species & cultivars
represented in Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Flowering Cherry Collection.
To find out & learn more about them, click here.
It is time to bare those legs as the weather gets warmer.

The cold winter months made our skin dry
so we need something to replenish the moisture.
Nivea Cherry Blossom & Jojoba Oil Infused Lotion,
my dry skin is transformed into smooth & radiant skin.
with a fast absorbing lotion.
It provides deep moisture for 24 hours with no greasy feeling.
It is paraben-free which I totally like
& of course it is dermatologically tested & approved.
Get it in your nearest Walmart or online.
My tickets were placed in a very fitting
cherry blossom card
from Love Pop.
I knew Love Pop cards from 2 years ago
when a friend of ours sent us this tropical Christmas card
to reminisce our beach wedding.
If you haven’t heard of Love Pop,
they are magical pop-up greeting cards.

The cover of this lovely pop up card
features a laser-cut illustration of a blooming cherry blossom branch.
Delicate petals fall gently from the branch in this depiction of one spring's most beautiful sights.

A Lovepop is more than a card.
The intricate 3D paper sculptures are designed by naval engineers on cutting edge software
& then hand-crafted in the Asian art form of sliceform kirigami.
Lovepop founders Wombi Rose & John Wise
became best friends at Webb Institute training to become naval architects.
After school,
the duo traveled to Vietnam where they discovered incredible hand-crafted paper cards.
And during our recent trip to Vietnam,
we actually saw so many pop-up cards in Hanoi!
Anyways, they headed back to Boston
& put the cards in the hands of friends, family & strangers.
That moment when someone opened a card
& saw the paper sculpture revealed for the first time became their obsession,
& Lovepop was born.
The two launched Lovepop out of the Harvard Innovation Lab in late 2014.
Since then, they were named to the 2015 Techstars class,
nominated for 50 on Fire by BostInno
& gained the confidence of professional investors.

Once opened,
this card reveals a stunning pink cherry blossom tree in full bloom.
Full of detail & stunning color,
surrounded by petal embellishments at the base of the tree,
the pop up cherry blossom tree is as wonderful as the real thing.
Designer Kathie was inspired by both her time studying abroad
& her own close connection to Japanese culture.
In Japan, the beginning of the school year
aligns with the start of cherry blossom season
& this gorgeous tree brings back wonderful memories for Kathie.
To Kathie,
the cherry blossom represents temporary beauty
which makes her appreciate & value how time affects art & beauty.

There's also an interesting phrase in Japanese called Hanafubuki
which refers to the aftermath of gust winds
&the subsequent swirling cherry blossoms that envelop you
& your surroundings in a flower blizzard
as you stroll through the park that also inspired this elegant design.
