Hermes Carre Club

Welcome to the Hermes Carre Club!

On Thursday, September 13, 2018,
Hermes celebrated the global debut of the Hermes Carre Club,
a memorable experience of free-spirited exploration & collective joy.
From the reception desk where guests check in & receive their membership card,
to each point of engagement with the carre,
this dynamic venue pays a multi-faceted, participatory tribute to the beloved silk square.

Hermes Carre Club showcases the creative energy & artistic expression
at the core of the Hermes silk universe,
highlighting the House’s contemporary vision.

New York City went carre-zy!

Carre Check in

"Carre" is square in French.

Carre is referred to as the silk scarf.

We met the Hermes silk artisans at the Carre Studio and saw their carre-tivity,
relaxed at the Carre Cafe,
sang our hearts out at the Carre-OK
& danced the night away at the Carre Disco.

Ugo Gattoni is born & raised in Paris who is currently living in Mexico City.
When Hermes asked him to come & perform,
because he is used to drawing in front of people,
he wanted something more.
To be able to immerse people in this performance.

He draws to animate, Mino.
Mino is a little character that he created.

Trivia!!!
Mino is the nickname of Emile Hermes.
His father called him Mino.

And Mino lives in the drawings he does in his scarf.

He animated 30-36 frames
& made him dance or do other actions.

Virginie Jamin has been designing scarves for Hermes for 14 years with great joy!

Her idea for her project for the Hermes Carre Club
is to use the scarf, Colliers de chins (dog collars),
which she designed over 10 years ago for Hermes (the one in the wall)
& to extend the carre.
In other words, to go beyond the original scarf design & tell a new story.

Incorporating dogs for the 1st time in her design

She made a couple of preparatory sketches.
The idea was really that this extension of the scarf design tells a new story.
And that she improvise on the spot from the studies she sketched out.

Theo de Gueltzl & Octave Marsal
with their drawing machine

They met the first time through common friends in high school.
They had a rock & roll band.
The machine started with a drawing.
They used to do long vertical drawings that inspired them for the machine.
They wanted to create movement in their drawings.

How it works:
It’s 18 meters of paper that turns in a. loop with a hand crank.
One person draws on one side
& the other turns the machine.
Then they swap.

Edouard Baribeaud recreating one of his designs

amazing work both in print & in person!

You can get his book, “Baribeaud”, in Amazon.
